BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A teenage boy faces weapon charges after a gun was found at a school Wednesday morning, according to investigators.
The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office reported a 14-year-old ninth grader at McKinley High in Baton Rouge is accused of having a gun in a pencil pouch.
According to deputies, a teacher found a .25 handgun that had been taken apart and had a live round in the magazine. Authorities said the boy reportedly told the teacher the pencil pouch the gun was found in belonged to him.
Deputies said he was taken to the East Baton Rouge Juvenile Detention Center.
He is charged with illegal carrying of a weapon on school property and violation of a weapon free zone.
