BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Family members said the teen, who was shot and run over Sunday while trying to help a woman who had been shot, underwent surgery Tuesday evening.
They said Daniel Wesley, 17, of Central, had surgery on his right arm, specifically his humerus, which was shattered by the bullet.
Investigators said Wesley was shot twice and run over by a car after he stopped to help April Peck, 30, of Baton Rouge, a woman who had been shot and tossed out of a car on Essen Lane.
Wesley spent part of Tuesday looking through get well cards from students attending St. Alphonsus Catholic School in Greenwell Springs.
The staff at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, where Wesley is receiving treatment sent him a special gift in the form of a tiger stuffed animal.
