Police arrest 5 in connection with deadly carjacking

HAMMOND, LA (WAFB) - Five people face charges in connection with a deadly shooting that happened when some of them decided to take his vehicle, according to investigators.

The Hammond Police Department reported Jordan Cyprian and Eric Newman, both 18 and both of Hammond, and a juvenile are charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery and obstruction of justice in the shooting death of Stephen Vance, 25, of Hammond.

Officials added Sabrina Kemp, 19, of Springfield, and Jamonte Felder, 18, of Hammond, have been charged with obstruction of justice. Police said all five suspects were arrested Monday. Pictures of the suspects were not released.

According to reports, Vance was found lying in the road Friday morning on Rue Cannes in the Villa West Subdivision. Officials said he had been shot and died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Police Chief James Stewart said Vance was shot during a carjacking.

Police said the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office assisted in the arrests.
