NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

"They outplayed us and they deserved to win the game," said Pelicans Head Coach Alvin Gentry couldn't stop repeating this fact after his team dropped a disappointing game in Dallas Sunday night.

Coming in, the Pelicans had won four of their last five games. But, the 91-81 loss to the Mavericks handed the Pelicans their second straight that follows a season long four game win streak.

Anthony Davis led all scorers with 36 points and 13-rebounds. But, only Jrue Holiday joined him in double figures with 17 points. On the whole, the Pels struggled to score. Shooting just 39 percent from the field. Meanwhile, Dallas, playing without star forward Dirk Nowitzki, relied on Harrison Barnes and Wesley Matthews down the stretch. The pair combined to score 44 points as the Mavericks picked up just their third win in 14-games.

The Pelicans return home to face both of Los Angeles' NBA teams. Tuesday against the Lakers and Friday the Clippers come to the Crescent City.
