WHISKEY BAY, LA (WAFB) -

A fiery crash closed a section of I-10 West for more than nine hours Saturday, causing heavy delays for many trying to return home after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Officials reported the crash happened around 12:30 p.m. All lanes reopened around 10 p.m.

Tpr. Bryan Lee said a crash involving an 18-wheeler and a car left both vehicles engulfed in flames. He added everyone escaped safely.

He said the big rig was hauling Pepto Bismol.

He stated the crash happened on I-10 West at Whiskey Bay, but traffic was diverted at LA 415 in Port Allen to US 190.

There was slow-moving traffic reported on I-10 West back to parts of Baton Rouge and bumper-to-bumper traffic on US 190 stretching from Krotz Springs to Port Allen at times.
