INDEPENDENCE, LA (WAFB) -

Investigators are asking for the public’s help in finding a man wanted in connection with a robbery and shooting.

The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office reported deputies are searching for Joseph St. Romain Jr., 37, of Tickfaw.

Detectives said they were called to a hospital in Livingston Parish after the victim arrived for treatment. They added they learned the robbery and shooting happened at a home off LA 442 in Independence.

Authorities said they were told St. Romain drove up to the house, pulled out a gun and demanded the victim’s wallet. They added the victim handed over the wallet, but they believe that’s when St. Romain hit the victim in the head with the gun.

According to reports, the gun went off and the victim was shot in the hand.

"I do not believe this was a random act of violence," Sheriff Jason Ard said in a written release.

St. Romain is wanted on charges of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of armed robbery.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 344-7867.
