Due to the increased volume of holiday traffic expected on Sunday, the Baton Rouge Police Department is planning to assist motorists passing through Baton Rouge.
Last year, eight officers were placed on the interstate for rapid response in clearing the road of wrecks, stalled vehicles, and debris. During that time, BRPD handled over 120 incidents that were vital to continued traffic flow. This effort greatly cut down response time and prevented on duty officers from handling calls on the interstate.
This year, on Sunday, November 27, BRPD will again have eight uniformed officers, including four motorcycle officers, assigned to the interstate between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. from North Baton Rouge to South Baton Rouge, which is the entire interstate system within Baton Rouge city limits.
