NORWOOD, LA (WAFB) - A teenage girl is dead after a single-vehicle crash in Louisiana near the Mississippi state line, according to investigators.
Louisiana State Police identified the victim as Emily Sessions, 14, of Woodville, MS.
Troopers reported the wreck happened on LA 422 east of LA 19 near Norwood in East Feliciana Parish around 4 p.m.
Tpr. Bryan Lee with LSP said investigators were able to gather that Sessions was a backseat passenger in a 2016 Jeep Wrangler headed west on LA 422 when a bug flew into the SUV, distracting the driver.
He added the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to go off the road and down a steep embankment. According to Lee, the vehicle then hit a tree and flipped.
Lee stated Sessions was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner's Office.
Investigators reported the driver and front seat passenger in the vehicle were also properly buckled up and suffered moderate injuries in the wreck.
Lee said the driver is not suspected of being impaired, but a blood sample will be taken for analysis.
The investigation is ongoing.
