BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Sheltered animals will soon have a new and improved place to stay while waiting to find their forever home.
The Companion Animal Alliance (CAA) held a groundbreaking early Friday for a new animal shelter on land donated by LSU.
It is the start of a partnership between CAA and the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine, as well as a new beginning for animal lovers and their four-legged, furry friends.
"We now have a better location. We have a shelter that is going to be user friendly. We're going to be able to segregate sick animals and actually care for them where we don't have those facilities now," said CAA Chairman Christel Slaughter.
The $12 million project was funded completely by private donors and is set to open in later summer 2017.
