ST MARY PARISH, LA (WAFB) - The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office is urging hunters and boaters to use caution when venturing out this weekend.
A cold front is expected to bring high winds out of the north to the coast, causing tides to be lower than normal. "Historically, cold fronts and strong north winds have kept us pretty busy," said Lt. Ross Mire of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office Marine Section.
Hunters and boaters can fall victim to low tides by getting stranded on sand bars and mud flats. This weekend's low tide is expected to be in the middle of the day, so those who are out should plan for falling tides when going out early in the morning. Officials urge boaters to bring a cell phone and charger to make sure they can call 911 in case of the need for assistance.
