POINTE COUPEE PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Investigators said a motorcyclist died late Thursday night after hitting a mailbox.
Louisiana State Police reported Anthony Freeman, 34, of Morganza, was killed in a crash on LA 1 near LA 978 in Pointe Coupee Parish around 11 p.m.
Tpr. Bryan Lee said the investigation, as of now, shows Freeman was riding a 2001 Honda Vulcan motorcycle on LA 1 North when he went off the highway in a curve and hit a mailbox.
He added it is not yet known what caused the motorcycle to go off the road, but the impact with the mailbox threw Freeman off the motorcycle.
Officials said Freeman was pronounced dead at the scene by the Pointe Coupee Parish Coroner's Office. They added he was wearing a DOT-approved helmet.
According to Lee, investigators do not think Freeman was impaired, but as with all deadly crashes on Louisiana highways, a sample of his blood was taken for analysis.
The investigation is ongoing.
