Group donates special needs bike to replace stolen one

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A birthday present came just at the right time for a 33-year-old woman with special needs.

About a month ago, Brittney had not only her joy but her main source of freedom was taken from her when a thief stole her bike of 19 years.

That's where the McLindon Family Foundation came in, donating a new bike just in time for the 33-year-old's birthday.

Her family said Brittney wants a bike party in the park

"This bike means everything to her. This is her joy. This is the only time that she's ever been out of her wheelchair and be a part of what's going on," said Brittney's mother Kay Lewis. "She can go to the park, and she doesn't have to be pushed around. She can drive around."

"These bikes help these kids in ways that you know we don't initially think of. They help them build strength," Andrew McLindon with the foundation

The group that donated the new bike actually makes similar donations across the country. The bikes are purchased at a discount from the manufacturer.
