BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A mother faces an attempted murder charge after cutting her son with a knife Thursday morning, according to officials.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reported Gloria Ross, 30, tried to kill her 8-year-old son by slashing his throat with a kitchen knife.

Investigators said they were called to a home on Mission Drive around 7 a.m. Thursday, November 17. They said the boy was taken to the hospital with a cut on his throat that was not considered life-threatening.

They added she reportedly walked up to the child and told him that she was sorry. She allegedly pulled out the kitchen knife and cut her son's throat.

Officials say Ross allegedly confessed to the incident and allegedly said, "Jesus told her to kill her son."

Police said there were at least two other children in the house at the time and all three were able to escape after struggling with Ross over the knife.

They added the other two children are now with their father.

Ross is charged with attempted first-degree murder and second-degree cruelty to a juvenile. Her bond has been set at $200,000.
