MORGANZA, LA (WAFB) - Seven people, including students, were taken to the hospital and a sugar cane truck driver is facing a citation after a three-vehicle crash involving a school bus Wednesday morning, according to officials.
Pointe Coupee Parish Superintendent Kevin Lemoine said a parish school bus carrying about eight students was stopped to pick up a student at LA 1 (Morganza Highway) and Deaton Lane near Morganza when a cane truck rammed into the back of a pickup truck that was stopped behind the bus.
He added the pickup then hit the back of the school bus. Lemoine said the bus was carrying students to Livonia and Valverda area schools. He also said it was foggy in the area at the time of the crash.
Louisiana State Police reported four people inside the pickup truck were taken to the hospital. Tpr. Bryan Lee said none of those appear to be serious. He added three students were also taken to the hospital and all of their injuries are considered minor.
Lee stated the driver of the cane truck will be cited.
