Home cameras show people stealing packages from door step

PRAIRIEVILLE, LA (WAFB) -

Mindy Walker says the two tiny cameras hanging from the roof of her Prairieville home are the best investment she ever made. On Friday, November 11 around 6:20 in the evening, the cameras captured two people, a man and a woman, taking six packages left on her front door step. The items inside included Christmas decorations and gifts that Walker had just bought, totaling around $160.

"It is very disheartening,” Walker said. “I work very hard, you know, for the money that I make, and for someone to walk in and take my valuables, it's upsetting."

The video shows a U-Haul truck pass the home, then return moments later. One angle shows the woman driving the truck, while the other shows the man getting out to take the packages. Walker believes these people are using the U-Haul as a cover while they search neighborhoods.

"I think that's why they did it broad daylight. I mean, we have cars passing between 5 and 7 the majority of the time, and for them to just come in a U-Haul into my driveway and get the packages, no worries."

The video has been turned over to the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office. They say the matter is under investigation, however officials are not sure if these suspects have stolen from any other homes.

Anyone with information should contact the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office at 225-621-4636, or Crime Stoppers at 225-344-7867.
