BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Ochsner Medical Center in Baton Rouge is the only hospital in Louisiana to be named to the 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals list by Truven Health Analytics, an IBM company. Ochsner was also named the state's only facility in the 100 Top Hospitals for overall care earlier in 2016.
"Being honored as one of the top 50 cardiovascular programs in the country speaks volumes for the high level of care we provide our patients. This award signifies that our physicians and staff deliver excellent results with fewer complications and a shorter length of stay. This is an outstanding achievement," said Eric McMillen, CEO of Ochsner.
The study measured performance of hospitals in key areas, such as risk-adjusted mortality, risk-adjusted complications, core measures (a group of measures that assess process of care), percentage of coronary bypass patients with internal mammary artery use, 30-day mortality rates, 30-day readmission rates, severity-adjusted average length of stay, and wage and severity-adjusted average cost. The study, now its 18th year, honored 50 hospitals that earned superior clinical outcomes in this critical areas.
The 100 Top Hospitals list is widely recognized as the leading study for evaluating the quality of a hospital. This year, Ochsner also received an "A" grade from The Leapfrog Group for its 2016 Hospital Safety Scores.
