BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Police have released the photo of a person they think has vital information related to a deadly shooting.
The Baton Rouge Police Department is trying to identify a man caught on camera around the time of the shooting Thursday afternoon on Plank Road.
Detectives are not referring to the man as a suspect. They said they want to question him to find out what he may know about the shooting.
"This guy has information that is vital to this case. We want to find out who he is and make contact with him, bring him in so we can get the information that he has," said Sgt. L'Jean McKneely with BRPD.
Officials said Jonathan Sam, 25, died after being shot near G&T Tires around 3 p.m. Thursday. Detectives say a customer at the business was being robbed and Sam saw what was happening and tried to intervene when he was shot and killed.
"I don't see him as an employee. I see him as a son," said Bryan Glover, the owner of G & T Tires.
Glover said he watched Sam growing up since he was 10 years old and then 10 years ago, he opened the shop and Sam had been working there since he was 15-years-old.
"He wasn't in the streets. That's why he was working. He obviously saw something going wrong and tried to help the person. He took the brunt of the punishment," Glover said.
Glover said he settles all disagreements by talking and wishes others would do the same.
"The younger folks believe that the street life is the way to go and it's not the way to go, not when you trying to do the right thing. You'll be dead at 25 or locked up for the rest of your life," Glover said.
Police have not yet identified any suspects in the shooting.
Anyone with information about the man pictured or the shooting is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 344-7867.
