GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - Incumbent Mayor Barney Arceneaux beat out a longtime city councilman to keep his job for a third term in Gonzales.
Arceneaux was first elected as mayor seven years ago as he has worked different jobs in law enforcement as well as local and federal governments for more than 40 years.

Arceneaux served on the Gonzales Police Department in several posts before eventually being elected Gonzales Chief of Police. In January 2009, he transitioned into the mayor's office for the chance to improve the city.
His opponent, Terance Irvin, had served as a councilman in Gonzales for 15 years, giving up his council seat to face off against Arceneaux in the mayor's race.
