BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

United Blood Services is partnering with the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank in order to make an even bigger difference with every blood donation.

For every donor who gives blood through November 12, $1 will be sent to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. All donors will also receive an "Answer the Call" hunting themed t-shirt while supplies last.

With each dollar donated, the food bank can generate four meals. United Blood Services helps to replenish the food bank's supply after they lost over 575,000 pounds of food during the August flooding.

"Let's help the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank back on their feet and ready to help members of our community during the holiday season! Donating blood November 1-12 will double your impact on the community," said Mitzi Breaux, marketing and communications manager for United Blood Services.

All blood types are always accepted, however, there is emergency need for those with O negative type blood, which is the universal donor and used in most trauma situations. United Blood Services is also in great need of platelet donations, which are often used for cancer patients and surgeries.

Donations can be made at United Blood Services in Baton Rouge, located at 8234 One Calais, the service road at I-10 and Essen Ln. New hours of operation are as follows:

  • Monday: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Tuesday: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Wednesday: 7 a.m. - 3 p.m.
  • Thursday: CLOSED
  • Friday: 7 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • Saturday: 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • Sunday: 7 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Those interested in donating should call 877-827-4376 or visit www.bloodhero.com to make an appointment.
