BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Crews were called out to two house fires Monday morning, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The St. George Fire Department reported the first fire happened on Fleet Drive near Westminster Drive around 9 a.m. Officials said it was under control before 9:15 a.m.
Eldon Ledoux with SGFD said the fire caused damage to the garage and kitchen. He added the four people at home at the time and the family pet were able to safely escape.
Ledoux also said investigators determined the fire started in a garbage can in the garage where someone had thrown away "smoking materials."
The Red Cross was called to assist the family.
Officials reported the second fire happened on Briargrove Avenue around 10:15 a.m.
Ledoux said the flames were contained to a bedroom. He added there were two adults and two children inside the home at the time.
According to officials, the fire was quickly put out before it could spread to other parts of the house.
Investigators determined the fire was "electrical in origin and nature."
The Red Cross was called to help this family also.
