BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A man was arrested for allegedly beating and choking his stepchildren and his wife was later charged with accessory for failing to report it to police, officials say.
Marlon Thomas and his wife Kristin Thomas are both facing charges for alleged abuse that occurred over a two year period. According to the probable cause report, the two children showed physical signs of abuse.
"[I] observed bruising on the 13-year-old female's legs, arms and even a bald spot on the front of the child's head where Marlon had yanked the child's hair out," states the report. "The child further stated Marlon has also choked her several times in the past when he was mad at her."
The male child also claims that Marlon abused him. The report states that in September 2016, the child claims that Marlon "wrapped a rope" around his neck and said, "I swear to god, I will kill you."
The child claims he couldn't breathe, but was able to struggle and "kick Marlon off him."
Marlon was arrested on October 4, 2016 and was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of cruelty to juveniles, aggravated assault (domestic abuse), and cruelty to juveniles. His bond was set at $14,000.
After Marlon's arrest, investigators questioned Kristin Thomas about the alleged abuse because both children allegedly told her about the incidents.
"...Kristin admitted having knowledge of all incidents and even the offense in which Marlon had choked her son with a rope," states the report. "Kristin stated she did not report these incidents because sometimes Marlon would take her phone leaving her no way to call. Kristin stated she did not report the incident of Marlon choking her son with the rope because she did not think the incident was bad enough to call the police."
Kristin Thomas was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on November 1, 2016 on two counts of accessory after the fact to cruelty to juveniles.
According to court records, Marlon has prior convictions that include simple burglary and DWI.
