Man accused of breaking into flood-damaged business undergoing renovations

INDEPENDENCE, LA (WAFB) - Authorities credited the public with helping them arrest a suspect in a burglary of a business being renovated following the historic floods.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office reported Randon Williams, 20, of Independence, faces charges in connection with a break-in at the NV Beauty Salon in Independence.

Detectives said their investigation pointed to Williams as a prime suspect and there was already an active outstanding warrant for him on a charge of Computer-aided solicitation of a minor. They added they also collected information about where he might be staying.

Investigators reported Williams was found at a home in Hammond and took him into custody on the felony warrant. They added a search warrant gave them access to the house where about $15,000 believe to be stolen from the salon was found inside.

Williams was booked on a charge of looting.

Deputies said a second suspect has been identified in connection with the burglary and arrest warrants will be issued.

The investigation is ongoing.
