BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Capital Area Veterans Association (CAVA) is hosting the Inaugural Baton Rouge Veterans Day Parade on Sunday, October 30.
Rain or shine, the parade will roll at 2 p.m. down South Choctaw Dr. beginning at N Sherwood Forest Dr. and ending at Flannery Rd.
"We are excited to have over 25 units, including floats, walking units, and military vehicles in our first parade. With such a wonderful beginning, this event is guaranteed to grow into one of the most anticipated parades in the area," said Tommy Straight, CAVA representative.
As part of the event, the Zachary Taylor VFW Post on 13214 S Choctaw Dr. will be selling food and drinks. All proceeds will go towards the repair of damage done to the post as a result of the August flooding. Musical entertainment will also be provided.
The post will be collecting new, unopened packs of socks and underwear for homeless veterans, as well as non-perishable food for the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. Attendees can also bring damaged US flags for proper retirement and disposal.
