IBERIA PARISH, LA (WAFB) -

Just before 2:30 a.m. on Friday, October 28, troopers from Louisiana State Police responded to a two vehicle wreck on US Hwy. 90 near LA 675 that claimed the lives of Cypress Boudreaux, 22, of St. Martinville and Tessie Sylvester, 38, of New Iberia.

The initial investigation by LSP revealed the crash occurred as Boudreaux was driving a 2004 Mini Cooper westbound in one of the eastbound lanes of US Hwy. 90. Boudreaux crashed head-on into Sylvester, who was driving a 2009 KIA Optima. Despite wearing her seat belt, Boudreaux sustained fatal injuries in the crash. Sylvester was not wearing a seat belt and also sustained fatal injuries.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene by the Iberia Parish Coroner's Officer. Troopers suspect impairment may be a factor in this incident. Blood samples were taken from both drivers for analysis.

The investigation is ongoing.
