BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - LSU and Alabama are off this weekend preparing for a huge SEC showdown in Tiger Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 5.
There is still a lot of great football action scheduled this weekend.
Southern travels to Lorman, Mississippi to face Alcorn State and the Saints are home to host Jimmy Graham and the Seattle Seahawks.
Southern (4-2) at Alcorn State (3-3)
After Saturday's game, one winning streak will come to an end. The Jaguars have won four in a row after dropping their first two games, while Alcorn State has won two in a row after a three-game losing streak. Southern's offense is too much for Alcorn and the Jags make it five in a row.
Southern: 41, Alcorn State 25
Seahawks (4-1-1) at Saints (2-4)
Jimmy Graham is coming back to the Superdome this weekend. The former Saint has 27 receptions and one touchdown this season. Russell Wilson has been slowed by knee and ankle injuries this season and this should help the Saints defense keep it close. Drew Brees is once again off to a Pro Bowl start but will face a tough Seattle defensive line. Can the Saints offensive line give him time to throw the ball and establish some type of run game? No, but because of Brees, the Saints again keep it close.
Seahawks 24, Saints 21
The Tom Herman Watch:
UCF (4-3) at Houston (6-2)
The unranked Houston Cougars have lost two of their last three games, including a 38-16 loss to SMU on Saturday. Houston players have heard rumors of head coach Tom Herman going to Texas after the season, as well as being a top target for LSU. Herman said this week he will no longer address coaching rumors. Can the team put the distractions behind them? For this week, yes.
Houston 34, UCF, 20
No. 2 Michigan (7-0) at Michigan State (2-5)
Last year, Michigan State blocked a punt and ran it in for a touchdown on the last play of the game to beat the Wolverines. This year, times have been tough for the Spartans and they won't get any better this weekend.
Michigan 34, Michigan State 17
No. 14 Florida (5-1) vs Georgia (4-3)
Florida is on a roll and Georgia is not. The Gators are in first place in the SEC East and need a victory against the Bulldogs to stay a game ahead of the Vols. This one will be ugly, but Florida gets the win.
Florida 17, Georgia 14
No. 8 Baylor (6-0) at Texas (3-4)
The 'Hot Seat' is getting hotter for Texas head coach Charlie Strong. Baylor is averaging 43 points a game, while the Longhorns are giving up 32. After a loss to the Bears this weekend, ouch!
Baylor 27, Texas 20
No. 7 Nebraska (7-0) at No. 11 Wisconsin (5-2)
Nebraska head coach and former assistant head coach of the New Orleans Saints, Mike Riley, has the Cornhuskers on a roll at 7-0. They travel to Wisconsin to face a very talented Badger football team. It will be hard hitting, low scoring and won by the home team.
Wisconsin 19, Nebraska 14
The Jimbo Fisher Watch:
No. 3 Clemson (7-0) at No. 12 Florida State (5-2)
Both teams average in the mid 30's in scoring offense, the Seminoles, unfortunately, give up 29 on defense and are suspect to a lot of big plays. Deshaun Watson will take advantage of that and the Tigers win a tough road game.
Clemson 30, Florida State 24
No. 15 Auburn (5-2) at Ole Miss (3-4)
There's a lot riding on the game in Oxford. Auburn is looking to stay in the race for the SEC Championship and NCAA Playoffs. The Rebels have lost two in a row and are looking to break the streak. Auburn has won four in a row and are a riding a high. In an upset, Ole Miss shocks Auburn and puts a dent on those championship aspirations.
UPSET of the WEEK: Ole Miss 28, Auburn 17
LAST WEEK: 5-4, OVERALL RECORD: 48-24
