MORGAN CITY, LA (WAFB) - Narcotics detectives said a man arrested on multiple charges following a traffic stop now faces an additional charge after investigators determined items found in his vehicle were reported stolen.
The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office reported Brian Washington, 21, of New Orleans, was arrested Tuesday afternoon for illegal possession of stolen things.
Deputies said Washington was pulled over on October 6 for speeding on US 90 in Patterson. They added he was arrested on several charges at the time.
Investigators reported new sink faucets, drill batteries, pipe fittings and other hardware materials were found in the car Washington was driving.
They added further investigation revealed the items had been reported stolen from home improvement stores in Kenner and Lafayette. Detectives said it was learned Washington stole just under $5,000 worth of materials.
Once the investigation was complete, Washington was re-arrested on a charge of possession of stolen things. His other charges include:
Speeding 1 to 10 mph
Improper lane usage
Resisting by force
Battery on a police officer
Obstruction of justice
Possession of marijuana
Illegal carrying of a weapon
Possession of Schedule II drugs
Possession of Schedule IV drugs with intent to distribute
SMPSO added warrant charges for thefts from the police departments in Kenner and Lafayette are pending.
