Huge turnout on first day of early voting leads to long lines at polling places

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Early voting is underway for the November 8 election.

There was a huge line of people Tuesday morning at the Archives Building on Essen Lane in Baton Rouge. Officials said there was about a 30-minute wait to vote.

With so many important issues on the ballot, one way to help speed things up is knowing how you're going to vote before you get there.

"Study the ballot; you can do that on geauxvote.com or we'll give you a sample ballot while you're waiting in line," said Secretary of State Tom Schedler. "Be prepared. The lines are long. They're moving quickly, but you can anticipate at least at this moment across the state about a 15 to 20-minute wait. But take that time in line, if you haven't done it before, to study that ballot."

Not only will you be voting for the next president, there are also a US Senate race and a couple of mayoral races on the ballot, as well as some constitutional amendments.
