Two suspects arrested in theft of 3 Baton Rouge stores

Theft reported at optical store in BR; suspect allegedly fled in taxi

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Two individuals have been arrested after allegedly robbing three Baton Rouge stores and then fleeing in a taxi.

Wesley Moore, 28, is charged with two counts of aggravated battery, one count of misdemeanor theft, two counts of felony theft, and resisting arrest. Dewayne Stafford, 54, is charged with two counts of principal aggravated battery, one count of principal misdemeanor theft, and two counts of principal felony theft. Stafford is also charged with possession of schedule I controlled substance.

Stafford is believed to be the getaway driver and is also an employee for Yellow Cab.

The suspects first allegedly robbed the Burlington Coat Factory on Airline Hwy. before allegedly stealing merchandise from The Stage on O'Neal Lane around 2 p.m. on Monday, October 24. According to officials, Moore went into the store, grabbed items, and attempted to walk out. Reports say he pepper sprayed an employee as well.

The third incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. at a nearby optical store. Officials say the same thing occurred, only Moore was not able to pepper spray another employee.
