A boil water advisory has been issued by the Killian Water System for all of its customers.

Officials said they issued the advisory because its water supply system experienced problems. They added that a main pump is being replaced to fix the situation.

Water users in the affected area are asked to boil any water that is to be used for human consumption. That includes making ice, brushing teeth or using it for food preparation or to rinse food.

Officials released the following instructions to disinfect the water before consumption:

Boil water for one (1) full minute in a clean container. The one minute starts after the water has been brought to a rolling boil. (The flat taste can be eliminated by shaking the water in a clean bottle, pouring it from one clean container to another, or by adding a small pinch of salt to each quart of water that is boiled.)

The boil advisory will remain in effect until officials are notified by the Louisiana Department of Health that testing shows no contamination and the water is safe.
