Fiery crash in WBR Parish claims lives of man, 7-year-old girl; impairment suspected

WEST BATON ROUGE PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Just after 1 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle wreck on LA 984 south of LA 983 near the West Baton Rouge and Point Coupee Parish line. The wreck claimed the lives of Javone Reed, 49, of Bossier City and Audrey Bacon, 7, of Port Allen.

The initial investigation revealed that Reed was traveling northbound on LA 984 in a 2007 Mercedes Benz S550, failed to negotiate a left hand curve, and ran off the right side of the road. The vehicle struck a utility pole and a culvert before overturning. Reed and the passenger in the front seat, Elizabeth Bacon, 25, of Port Allen, were ejected from the vehicle. The vehicle then caught fire with Audrey still inside.

Reed and Audrey sustained fatal injuries during the incident. They were both pronounced dead at the scene. Elizabeth sustained serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital. Neither Reed nor Elizabeth were restrained at the time of the wreck. It is unknown if Audrey was properly restrained. Impairment is suspected in this crash and a toxicology sample was taken from Reed for analysis.
