BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A big donation was made to help protect law enforcement Thursday.

Local law enforcement received donations for new equipment including new hand-held shields, gas masks, and ear pieces.

All of the money for the donations was raised by the Capital Area Law Enforcement Foundation. Organizers also announced their new foundation and board members, who include some family members of the police officers involved in the deadly July ambush.

"This is an awesome event. An awesome opportunity for law enforcement in this area," said Police Chief Carl Dabadie with Baton Rouge Police Department. "We want to thank the Capital Area Law Enforcement Foundation for all that they've done and we greatly appreciate their hard work and efforts."

Officials said law enforcement donations totaled more than $69,000.
