LORANGER, LA (WAFB) - A 30-year-old Albany man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly murdering a woman whose body was found dumped on the side of the road in Loranger.
According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office, Brian Gregory Anthony II is charged with second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, burglary, simple criminal damage, simple battery, felony theft, simple arson, and two counts of auto theft.
Officials say warrants were issued for Anthony's arrest Tuesday evening. He is believed to be responsible for the death of 27-year-old Heather Cox.
Deputies located Cox's body around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday on Briarpatch Cemetery Road in Loranger.
Officials said deputies responded to reports that a vehicle may have hit a pedestrian and the victim's body was lying unresponsive near the roadway. When detectives arrived, they were able to determine that the female was a homicide victim and not a pedestrian fatality as originally reported.
According to deputies, Cox was shot once in the upper torso. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies also responded to a separate incident of a vehicle fire on Hwy 1054 in Independence. Officials said deputies found a 2006 Nissan Sentra that was completely burned in a grassy area just off the highway.
