OUR TURN: Thanking Flood Volunteers

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

It’s been two months since catastrophic flooding hit our area, upending the lives of thousands people who live here, our family members, our friends and our co-workers.

There is still a huge amount of work left to do for us to recover as a community, but it’s important to recognize the work that has already been done. And to start, we want to thank all of the people who have volunteered their time or made donations to help our neighbors in need. The gifts have been amazing and they have come from all over the country.

People have done incredible things to help their fellow citizens, and it would be wrong for all of us not recognize and honor these efforts. Many of our neighbors are still hurting, and for some, the prospects are not bright. If you’re in a position to help someone in need, please do so.

Also, please support our elected leaders in any way you can as they work to find more sources of relief for people who need it and craft plans to avoid similar outcomes the next time we have a big flood.

That's "Our Turn." Now, it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, visit us on Facebook or send an email to yourturn@wafb.com.
