BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The commissioner of Louisiana's Division of Administration is resting at home after being hospitalized over the weekend for a heart attack.
Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne said he woke up Saturday morning feeling pressure in his chest and was taken to Our Lady of the Lake by his wife, Cathy. Doctors found some blockages and were able to determine that Dardenne had suffered a mild heart attack.
Dardenne was discharged Monday morning and released a statement shortly after that said, in part, "I've been treated and remain alert and very thankful. I am heeding my doctors' advice regarding rest but look forward to returning to work as soon as I'm cleared."
Gov. John Bel Edwards said that he has been in touch with Dardenne and his wife over the weekend.
"Jay is an integral part of this administration, and Donna (Edwards' wife) and I are praying for his speedy recovery. We look forward to having him back at work as soon as he is able," Edwards said.
