ASCENSION PARISH, LA (WAFB) -

Troopers from the Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a single vehicle wreck in Ascension Parish just before 6 p.m. on Friday, October 7.

The wreck claimed the life of 7-year-old Thaddeus Johnson Jr. of Donaldsonville.

The wreck occurred on LA 405 south of LA 1. The initial investigation revealed that Delacy Howard, 35, also of Donaldsonville, was traveling northbound on LA 405 in a 2004 Chevy Suburban, when for unknown reasons, Howard failed to negotiate a left hand curve and ran off the right side of the road. The vehicle began to flip and Johnson was ejected.

Johnson was unrestrained at the time of the wreck and sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ascension Parish Coroner's Office. Three other juveniles were in the vehicle at the time of the wreck. Howard and the three other passengers were transported to a local hospital with moderate to severe injuries. It is unknown if impairment is a factor in this wreck, but a toxicology sample will be taken from Howard for analysis.

Charges are pending.
