The Madison Prep Chargers are halfway to another 10-0 season thanks, in no small part, to junior running back and Week 5's Sportsline Player of the Week Tyrese Walker.
Walker has been huge the past two weeks with an 110-point explosion. He racked up 201 yards rushing on 12 carries and three touchdowns in basically one half of the Chargers' game against East Feliciana, shutting it down after one touch in the third quarter of a 56-6 blowout.
"My O-line, they did a good job of blocking. Like every time, they like just followed my lead," Walker said. "Donell Wallace and E'Darius Anderson, I just followed them the whole game and just going to the touchdown."
On the season, Walker is averaging an incredible 17 yards per carry. He is on pace for 1,000 yards. He also plays defense for a team that has just missed out on two trips to the Superdome after falling in the Division III semifinals and quarterfinals by a point.
"Sometime coaching can be overrated. You know this is a kid that has tremendous athletic ability on offense and defense," said head coach Michael Roach. "This kid has great hips, probably the best hips of any guy, a change direction type guy that I've had a chance to coach, and I've been coaching 20-something odd years. He's just an exceptional athlete and makes coaching kind of easy for us."
