Deputies seize more than $3 million in cocaine during traffic stop

PORT ALLEN, LA (WAFB) -

A stop along I-10 in West Baton Rouge Parish resulted in the seizure of millions of dollars’ worth of cocaine and an arrest, according to investigators.

The West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office reported Jesus Alberto Villafranco, 44, of Deer Park, TX, was arrested Wednesday afternoon.

Deputies said Villafranco was pulled over around 1 p.m. for a traffic violation. They added a search of the vehicle turned up 31 kilos of cocaine hidden in a compartment built in the trailer being towed.

Authorities said the total street value of the drugs is more than $3 million.

Villafranco was booked on a charge of possession of cocaine in excess of 400 grams.
