Taylor Swift helps single moms recover from flooding

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Life of a Single Mom, an organization, committed to helping them has received a gift from pop sensation Taylor Swift.

"Our hearts are overwhelmed by the outpouring of support for single moms. We are grateful to Taylor Swift for reaching out to help us ensure that no single mom walks alone during this very difficult time," said The Life of a Single Mom CEO, Jennifer Maggio. "The devastation across southeast Louisiana has been unbelievable. We are thankful for the opportunity to serve more single moms with this gift."

The generous donation is part of a $1 million gift that Taylor Swift has pledged for Louisiana flood recovery efforts.

Tiffany Temple, also of TLSM, says they will begin distribution carefully.

"We will give 10 special moms refrigerators, groceries, slow cooker, cook book, and gift card. Moms have until October 20 to apply before the selection is made based on greatest need. We opened up applications yesterday afternoon, and 15 moms have applied already."

As a support group for single moms, hundreds were impacted by the flood. Temple says on Saturday, September 10, TLSM held a Single Mom Drive-Thru at our office in Baton Rouge. We were able to serve 825 single moms and 600 children impacted by the flood! Moms drove up and volunteers, many of whom were single moms, loaded cars with fruit, vegetables, non-perishable, baby items, purses filled with toiletry items, booksacks filled with supplies, gift cards and CDs featuring Jennifer Maggio's teachings.
