Central students were in for a big surprise Tuesday morning.
The Kids in Need Foundation surprised Tanglewood Elementary students with free backpacks filled with school supplies.
The organization brought donations for more than 2,000 students.
Dollar General provided totes filled with classroom supplies for all of the teachers.
Julie Stevens, the principal at Tanglewood Elementary, said 90 percent of her students were directly impacted by the flood.
"It's very, very heartwarming," Stevens said. "We've been touched by so many. We've been blessed. Each and every day, we've had different communities reaching out to us, asking how can we help? This was a surprise to me so (it was) a very great surprise. Our students have lost everything, many of them. Having a backpack, even an extra backpack, it's just a blessing to them right now."
The organization plans to donate school supplies to nearly 8,000 students across East Baton Rouge Parish.
