BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Ten members of the Mexican Red Cross – Cruz Roja Mexicana – were deployed to Baton Rouge this week to help Latino families recovering from the floods. The Cruz Roja Mexicana volunteers, assisting the American Red Cross, are visiting communities around Baton Rouge throughout the upcoming week.
The group of bilingual humanitarians will be assisting families by connecting them to Red Cross services and resources, including limited financial assistance for those needing long-term recovery.
The two disaster relief organizations have previously collaborated in the recovery efforts of several other large-scale disasters, including Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and Superstorm Sandy in 2012.
People who may be eligible for Red Cross financial assistance should register online at www.redcross.org/LAfloodassistance or by calling 855-244-2490. People who are deaf, hard of hearing, or require accessible communications may text 571-422-1144.
