BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Louisiana Department of the Treasury is returning tens of thousands of dollars in unclaimed property to residents and it has been learned that one of those residents, who was affected by the flood, got about $70,000 back.
It happened at an event this past weekend at the Mall of Louisiana. Treasurer John Kennedy said the woman found $34,000 of her own money, along with $35,000 in cash and stock from her late mother's estate.
In all, the treasury reports returning more than $175,000 to Louisianians who stopped by Saturday.
Unclaimed property includes old bank accounts, insurance proceeds, utility deposits and other lost money sources.
