DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) -

Monday was a very special day for a Livingston Parish football team.

The Southside Junior High School football team was back on the field Monday. Just a few weeks ago they thought they would not even have a season.

Thanks to some generous donations from the community and NFL stars, the team was able to get new gear and equipment after the flood washed away basically everything.

"I'm so grateful. I have two granddaughters that go to this school, and their family home flooded and it just feels wonderful for all these children to be back out here and the parents," said Connie Hitzman, a grandparent.

The team got nearly $20,000 in donations after someone posted on social media that the team was going to have to forgo the season when the old equipment was damaged in the flood. NFL players Charles Tillman and Benjamin Watson donated $5,000 each.
