BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - On Saturday, September 17, flood victims got the chance to scoop up millions of dollars in unclaimed property.
State treasurer John Kennedy invited people to the Mall of Louisiana, saying they recently returned thousands of dollars to one victim stranded at a local shelter.
In total, victims got back more than $176,000. One person collected more than $63,000.
"We're giving first priority to our flood victims. Every little bit helps at this time for a lot of our people. In the first two and a half hours, we returned about $31,000," said Kennedy.
Unclaimed money could include old bank accounts, stocks, or bonds. If you think you may be owed some of that money, click here.
