DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) - The permit office in Denham Springs is still working to help those who need permits to rebuild their flooded homes.
According to officials, the city received 260 permit applications. So far, they have approved and issued 102. There are 58 more permits ready to be issued, while 80 applications remain under review.
Officials added that so far, they have not issued permits to six households because the property met the criteria to be considered "substantially damaged."
Any Denham Springs residents who got less than 18 inches of water are not going to require to have a permit for repairs. However, anyone with more than 18 inches of water will need a permit which is available online.
Also, anyone planning to make any changes to their homes or add-ons when they begin the repair process, that too needs to go through city hall.
Note: They are listed under the Planning & Development section.
Denham Springs Mayor Gerard Landry said 90 percent of the homes in the city took on water. He estimated half of all those people did not have insurance.
