BELLE ROSE, LA (WAFB) - A man was arrested for his fifth DWI after he allegedly drove on the wrong side of the road and nearly hit a vehicle.
According to the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office, a deputy noticed a vehicle driving on the wrong side of Hwy. 1000 in Bell Rose at roughly 2:40 a.m. When the deputy tried to stop the vehicle, the driver allegedly sped off.
"...the vehicle accelerated to speeds in excess of 85 miles per hour and again entered the wrong lane of travel nearly colliding with an oncoming vehicle," officials stated in a press release.
The driver, Faron P. Coupel, 54, eventually stopped the car and allegedly failed a field sobriety test.
Coupel was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Jail. He was booked with DWI and failure to drive on the right side of the roadway.
