BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A firefighter was treated for heat-related illness by medics after battling a house fire Tuesday morning.
The fire started at a home near the corner of Charles T. Smith Drive and 11th Street at around 11 a.m.
Officials with the Baton Rouge Fire Department said it took about 30 minutes to get the fire under control. They added the fire appeared to have been contained to the attic and back part of the house.
The fire sent huge plumes of smoke billowing across I-110 into the downtown area.
The cause of the fire is being investigated. Red Cross is assisting the family.
