BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Police said a man was killed after getting hit by a car on I-10 early Saturday morning.
The Baton Rouge Police Department identified the victim as Melvin Coleman, 50, of Baton Rouge.
Investigators reported it happened on I-10 East near East Washington Street around 12:30 a.m.
According to police, Coleman was trying to cross I-10 East on foot when he was hit by a 2000 Honda Accord. They said they don't know why he was trying to cross the interstate
Sgt. Don Coppola with BRPD said the pedestrian crash caused another crash involving a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado, a 2013 GMC Sierra and a 2006 Dodge Dakota.
He added people in the Honda and GMC were taken to the hospital, but their injuries are not considered life-threatening.
The crash is still being investigated.
