To kick off the 2016 season, Dunham running back Tony Huey takes the honor of Sportsline Friday Nite Player of the Week for Week 1.
Huey, an undersized all-district linebacker a year ago, started his senior year with a bang Friday night. He scored a 10-yard touchdown and another from two yards out against Archbishop Hannan in the Tigers' season opener.
Huey also turned into a receiver and took a short pass for a 30-yard touchdown. Later in the game, he slipped out of the backfield again from 20 yards out to score his fourth touchdown of the game.
Finally from the 20 again, Huey got the handoff and raced past half the Hannan defense on the way to his fifth touchdown. He had 160 all-purpose yards in a 49-14 Tigers victory.
"He didn't have lots of yards rushing, lots of yards receiving, but he scored just about every time he touched the ball," head coach Neil Weiner. "He made it very difficult to be tackled. The way he runs, very physical, strong young man. He works extremely hard in the weight room. You can kind of see he runs with that style."
"I already knew I was going to get it a lot. I just was prepared for it, and I treated my body carefully before the game, and I hydrated a lot," Huey said. "I just came out on Friday. It was the third play of the game he gave it to me. I just saw I had room to work, and I just started from there."
