FRENCH SETTLEMENT, LA (WAFB) - The fate of the homes along the Amite River in French Settlement remains up in the air.
Livingston Parish President Layton Ricks said he is currently stepping back from plans to condemn 10 homes on Cypress Point Lane. Four homeowners want to try to save their properties, Ricks said.
During the flood and in the weeks that followed, the ground began to fall out from under homes along the river.
"We're going to back off on the condemnation process at this time," Ricks said. "We're meeting with the insurance commissioner Monday and Rep. Clay Schexnayder. We're trying to get a meeting set up with attorney general's office to get guidance and direction on condemnation where you have a situation where one wants to and one don't."
Homeowners have complained that parish leaders are taking too long to make a decision.
Some wanting to repair their properties have said they do not want to invest money if the homes are going to be condemned.
