BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Some people who are usually the first to help others are getting a lift from firefighters across the country.
An 18-wheeler donning an American flag and banner that read "Helping others who help us. Fill the truck for flood victims" pulled into the St. George Fire Department at noon Wednesday.
It was filled with cleaning supplies, personal hygiene items, clothes, toys and other goods for firefighters who were flooded from their homes.
The donations came from fire departments in Hazelton, Pennsylvania which is the native home of the St. George District Chief, Jack Jones.
"After I contacted them and said we could use some stuff for our members that have loss, they had a drive over the last two weeks," Jones said. "The fire stations in that area were drop off points. The next thing, we got trucks and the supplies are here going to not only our members but first responders throughout this community."
The chief said they have already contacted other fire departments that were hit by the flood to offer some of their good fortune.
